Tim Phillips

managing director

The founder and managing director of ECigIntelligence, Tim is a UK-qualified attorney, having worked at the European Commission, BSkyB and Herbert Smith (an international law firm), AOL Europe, as director of public affairs at Betfair (IPO in 2010 valued at £1.5bn), and as a partner in a New York VC-funded start-up in the diamond sector. Tim holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Law, London and a Masters in Geology from Oxford University.

Barnaby Page

editorial director

Before joining ECigIntelligence in early 2014 as one of its first employees, Barnaby had a 30-year career as a reporter and editor for newspapers, magazines and online services, working in Canada, the US and the Middle East as well as his current British location. He has edited publications covering fields including technology and the advertising industry, and was launch editor of the first large daily online news service in the British regional media. Barnaby also writes on classical music for a number of publications.

Barnaby manages the editorial and reporting teams and works closely with the analyst teams, to ensure that all content meets high standards of quality and relevance. He also writes for the site occasionally, mostly on science-related issues; he is a member of the Association of British Science Writers.

Erik Galavis

Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Erik has a degree in mass communications. He worked in advertising for several years before moving to Barcelona to study for a master’s degree in communications. He worked in various sectors, including tourism, advertising and sales, before joining ECigIntelligence.

Erik focuses on client management, the growth and expansion of ECigIntelligence, and understanding how can we add value to your business.

Eva Antal

Eva brings expertise in consumer insight after working for four years for Allegra World Coffee Portal, a London-based research agency. She holds an MBA from the Grenoble Ecole de Management and a BSc in Tourism and Hotel Management from the Budapest Business School.

Eva is responsible for consumer data gathering and analysis as well as researching the US vaping market; Eva also has responsibility for our quantitative focussed output.

Pablo Cano Trilla

Pablo holds an LLM with Distinction from the University of Aberdeen, an LLB in law from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a BA in political science from Pompeu Fabra University. He started his career with an internship at the European Parliament in Brussels, and since then has worked in Mexico, the UK and Spain as a lawyer and a legal and political consultant. Pablo Cano Trilla

Elba Manzanilla Zapata

Elba has a law degree from the Catholic University Andrés Bello, Caracas, Venezuela, and an LLM from Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona specialising in EU law. Elba has worked as a lawyer in Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd, Caracas branch. She is a pianist and a yogi-in-progress.

Elba focuses on European regulatory analysis, including tracking legislation affecting the e-cigarette industry and runs our EU monthly regulatory tracking dashboard.

Marija Obradovic

senior regulatory analyst/international

Marija has experience in different policy areas acquired in non-profit organisations in Spain and the Balkans, where she has worked on devising new legislative and policy solutions. She built a system for financial restructuring of commercial non-performing loans (NPLs) for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and implemented a major program for the US State Department, where she managed a project that aimed to improve the skills of lawyers in the Serbian Bar Association. Marija is a nutrition and fitness enthusiast.

Focused on the international market, Marija’s work includes monitoring legislative efforts and law enforcement; Marija also runs our global monthly regulatory tracking dashboard.

Berta Camps Bisbal

US regulatory analyst

Berta has a law degree from the University of Barcelona and a Juris Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern University (Florida). She has worked as a faculty assistant in legal research in Florida, was a member of the Law Review, and has interned for a magistrate judge of the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Berta focuses on US legal analysis, including tracking all federal, state and local regulation. She runs our US interactive regulatory tracker product, following changing regulation on e-cigarettes in all 50 US states.

With law-based degrees from the University of Washington in Seattle and the international IE University in Madrid, Haoqun – also known as HQ – has a multicultural background in America, Europe and Asia and experience of the UK, US and Chinese legal systems.

Nicolas Leonardo Dejtiar

senior market analyst

Nicolas has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Salamanca (Spain) with an Erasmus year in Münster (Germany). Currently he is completing a master’s degree in Applied Social Research Techniques at the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Nicolas frequently practises judo and piano, mostly by falling down in both.

Nicolas contributes research and reports on the vaping market in several territories, and is leading ECigIntelligence coverage of CBD from a market perspective.

Stavroula Anastasopoulou

Stavroula graduated from the Athens University of Economics and Business with a BA in Management Science and Technology (majoring in Quantitative Methods and Operational Research). She has worked in logistics at Colgate-Palmolive and interned at the International Office of the University of Catalunya, Barcelona.

As a member of our market research and analysis team, Stavroula is particularly involved providing quantitative analysis and insight into supply chains. Stavroula also leads the market team's heated tobacco research.

Migle brings expertise in UX and innovation management after working for three years in the innovation consulting industry. She holds a PhD in business management from the University of Savoie Mont Blanc and a master’s degree in business strategy from IAE de Grenoble.

Veronika Sianko

Veronika’s professional background includes business model development for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food industry, coordination of sales staff in a food distribution company in Belarus, customer research and establishing communication with foreign partners. She holds a master’s degree in innovation and entrepreneurship from the University of Warwick (UK) as well as a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Belarusian State University in Minsk. She is keen on photography.

Veronika specialises in research and analysis on the vaping markets in Russia, Ukraine, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Austria and South Korea.

Freddie Dawson

Freddie studied at King’s College, London and City University and worked for publications including The Times, The Malay Mail, PathfinderBuzz and Solar Summary before joining the ECigIntelligence team. He has extensive experience in covering fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), manufacturing and technological innovation.

Freddie co-ordinates our briefings sections, including managing our international network of correspondents; he is also responsible for the Marketing & Retailing section and covers UK news, plus developments in the US.

David Palacios Rubio

European news editor

David holds a degree in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He was born in Barcelona but lived abroad for a while. He has worked at the communications unit of the European Parliament in Brussels, as an international correspondent and as communications consultant and advisor for different companies. David loves travelling to different cities on the weekend, spending time with his family and friends and skiing in winter.

David reports on topics including European regulation, public policy and world news; he also manages the social media presence of ECigIntelligence, and is responsible for locating, commissioning and managing our freelance correspondents in European countries.

Andrew Mambondiyani

Africa correspondent

Andrew Mambondiyani is a journalist based in Zimbabwe with more than ten years of journalism experience. His work has been published by various publications including the BBC, Thomson Reuters Foundation, Yale E360, Mongabay, SciDev, and Opendemocracy. He has special interests in climate change, agriculture, health, sustainable development and the environment in general.

Andrew contributes reporting on the e-cigarette and tobacco industries across sub-Saharan Africa.

Daniel Thomas Mollenkamp

US business and regulatory reporter

Daniel holds a BA in government from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Following an internship at the US Department of Homeland Security, he has worked in jobs ranging from crisis management to journalism. He is also on the board of Abukloi Secondary School in South Sudan.

One of two ECigIntelligence reporters based in Washington, DC, Daniel reports on both regulatory and industry developments across the US.

Danny is a long-time freelance photographer and writer. He has covered a wide variety of topics across a large expanse of the globe but specialises in his home country of Malaysia and its surrounds for ECigIntelligence. As a freelance, his clients have included Sky, QVC, Casino International, ActivInstinct and many more. Jon is currently training for his first half-Ironman triathlon.

Aidan has been a professional journalist for nearly 40 years, working since 1995 as a copy editor (or sub-editor, as the Brits would say) on various UK national dailies, including the News of the World, the Daily Mirror, The Independent, and the i. He has an MA in English Literature from Cambridge University, where he was awarded the Chancellor's Medal in 1978; he is also a published poet, whose fourth volume appeared in 2017.

Aidan copy-edits most of the news items in our briefings sections, as well as regulatory and market reports; he also co-ordinates our team of sub-editors and works to maintain and enhance quality across the site.
