Canada could soon allow e-cigarette and vaping products to be advertised as a healthier alternative to conventional cigarettes.
Health Canada has been quietly consulting stakeholders, seeking their opinions on seven possible health statements that could be allowed under new regulations now being drafted.
“If you are a smoker, switching completely to vaping is a much less harmful option,” reads one.
“Switching completely from combustible tobacco cigarettes to e-cigarettes significantly reduces users’ exposure to numerous toxic and cancer-causing substances,” reads another.
Marie Sindy Souffront, spokeswoman for Health Canada, said the department received 33 comments before the consultation closed on 17th September. They came from the vaping industry, public health associations, provincial governments and academics.
