Tight regulation keeps Brazil’s e-cigarette market small – but there’s life stirring under prohibition.
An online survey was carried out on U.S. e-cigarette consumers by ECigIntelligence between October 2016 and January 2017 in the U.S. The survey was carried out with support from consumer association CASAA (Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association) and a number of other associations and trade press.
ECigIntelligence surveyed U.S.-based vapers though an online panel, which sampled the population in four key U.S. regions. Here’s what we found.
The US Vape Store Survey is an ongoing joint project of ECigIntelligence and the Smoke-Free Alternative Trade Association (SFATA). The first survey was conducted in December 2015. This latest survey took in vape stores across the U.S. from December 2016 to January 2017. It garnered responses from 213 owners representing 417 stores, mostly in the South.
ECigIntelligence compares the prices of six e-cig products – hardware and e-liquids – across six key markets: France, Germany, Italy, the UK, the U.S. and Russia.
Our in-depth analysis of the UK e-liquid market shows that the top UK online retailers sell a variety of e-liquid brands, but they come predominantly from US manufacturers. The TPD has affected pricing, but premium as a description of an e-liquid does not imply higher prices.
Pods are a new hardware category which aim to fill the gap in the U.S. market between the traditional products on offer. In this March 2017 report, we see that the key concept is to close the gap between easy-to-use products and high-performance ones. Pod hardware manufacturers are now collaborating with well-known e-liquid manufacturers, with benefits for both sides.
With the deeming regulations likely to dramatically reduce the range of e-liquid available in the United States, ECigIntelligence looks at the current state of the online market in terms of product availability.
In 2016, the internet provided one of the most important distribution channels in the U.S., with about 15% of vapers regularly making their e-cigarette purchases online. The percentage was higher among hobbyists, with approximately 50% preferring to buy online, possibly due to lower prices. In this report, ECigIntelligence takes a more in-depth look at the online retail landscape and the most popular vendors.
In this November 2016 analysis we focused on stores which we believed to be dedicated to vaping, the traditional definition of a vape store. The directories to a large extent are populated with these stores, however we cleaned the data of stores which were clearly tobacconists or other non-specialist stores.
A study on vapers’ behaviour patterns was carried out by ECigIntelligence between August and September 2016, asking the respondents about device and brand preferences and consumption.
We consider the very different approaches online e-cigarette retailers and e-liquid brands in the U.S. take to social media, and how this reflects the different roles of their Websites and the way customers use them.
ECigIntelligence analyses the seven leading e-cig brands in mainstream U.S. retail, aiming to understand and explain the factors that have led to their success in these channels. How do the best-known brands fare, and how have the market leaders achieved their success?
Our analysis of the top five vape store chains in the U.S. reveals distinct patterns in geographical distribution, and offers some insight into how these chains are evolving against the background of a maturing industry.
In this report we look at Canada, a market-oriented, high-tech industrial society in the trillion-dollar class with high living standards. There are no federal laws related to e-cigarettes – despite calls to clarify a confused situation – so they are being regulated on provincial and municipal levels.

This article summarises the results of ECigIntelligence’s analysis of 664 vape stores across Canada’s 13 provinces and three territories.
Information was gathered from two online sources and combined and merged into a single directory.
The number of products on the U.S. e-cigarette market will contract sharply after the new deeming regulations come into full effect, according to their architect the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – and its predictions suggest a sudden slowdown in innovation too.
