Bangladesh: Speakers at an event organised by the Tobacco Control and Research Cell (TCRC) of Dhaka International University expressed concern that the import ban is showing not to be sufficient in discourage vaping, and that e-cigarettes continue entering the country through different channels,
press reports. Tobacco control expert and secretary of the Center for Law and Policy Affairs (CLPA), Syed Mahbubul Alam Tahin, said: “E-cigarettes are not manufactured in the country. Since they rely entirely on imports, the ban extends to their use, sale, and marketing.” The other speakers urged authorities to take strict action against e-cig use, sales and import, calling for a legal framework to reinforce the ban, in order to align with the country’s 2040 Tobacco-Free Strategy.
