Introduction to the Survey and ECigIntelligence

Thank you for agreeing to participate in the ECigIntelligence MEP Survey on New Nicotine Products.

This survey is being conducted by ECigIntelligence to ascertain MEPs’ views on new nicotine products, such as e-cigarettes. We intend it to be the first of a regular series. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete.

Summarised and anonymised findings will be provided to you and available on ECigIntelligence’s website. We will also send you a short summary of key data on the EU vapour market which we hope you will find interesting.

All information collected in this study will be available to ECigIntelligence staff ONLY, and will remain confidential. All analysis carried out on the data will be anonymized and consolidated, and no individual MEP’s identity or data can be reverse-engineered from the summarised and anonymised findings.

ECigIntelligence, part of the Tamarind Media group, provides impartial regulatory, legal and market information on the e-cigarette sector worldwide.

Established in 2014, we offer this to customers via our subscription service, and also conduct bespoke research. Our clients include regulators and NGOs as well as companies, and we are completely independent of the industries we cover.

Our team of lawyers, journalists and business analysts is based in Barcelona, London and Dublin, with additional researchers throughout Europe and worldwide.

Why are we surveying MEPs?

Surveys form a key part of our research activity. To date these have focused on businesses and consumers, but we are now also surveying policymakers to understand their personal views on the products we cover.

The first of these projects is an online survey of MEPs in Brussels. This starts in December 2020 and will be repeated every six months, in the run-up to the framing of the next EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD).

We believe the European Parliament will play a significant role in the formulation of the TPD, so we are keen to understand how much MEPs already know about e-cigarettes and other tobacco alternatives, and what they think about them.

What happens with the survey results?

Results of the survey will be published on our website and also sent directly to respondents. Individual responses will be completely anonymous.
