A US-wide safety recall was issued by RJ Reynolds Vapor Company for all Vuse Vibe power units after consumers complained that the batteries were malfunctioning, causing the units to overheat and creating a fire risk.
Reynolds said it had received ten consumer complaints but that no related injuries had been reported to the company.
It stressed that the recall was voluntary and that it would be working on it directly with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“We believe that the issue is confined to a small fraction of all Vuse Vibe products sold, and involve a battery manufactured in 2016 by a contract supplier,” the company said.
The Reynolds products Vuse Solo and Vuse Ciro are excluded from the recall since they use different battery components.
