US Center for Tobacco Products faces House probe over ‘regulatory failure’

The US House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Accountability has launched an investigation into the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) for alleged failure to effectively regulate tobacco and nicotine products.

The investigation follows an assessment by the quasi-independent Reagan-Udall Foundation that the CTP had not clearly outlined the most basic elements of its regulatory programs, resulting in confusion, inefficiency, litigation, and suspicions of political interference.
