8th January 2025: Czech Republic: The Ministry of Health has updated the publicly available list of notified herbal products for smoking, e-cigarettes, and substitute refills.
20th December 2024: Czech Republic: According to the Excise Tax Act (consolidated budget package), the excise tax rate for nicotine-containing and nicotine-free e-liquids will increase to CZK5 (€0.20) per ml in January 2025.

28th November 2024: Czech Republic: In the statement by the Czech Republic on the subject of the EU Council recommendation on smoke- and aerosol-free environments replacing Council recommendation 2009/C 296/02, the country said it believes the recommendation is a step towards reducing tobacco and related product harm. However, the country emphasises that public health policies must be rational, realistic and aligned with national strategies. It advocates for a balanced approach focusing on prevention and harm reduction. Additionally, the Czech Republic stresses the importance of considering the relative harm of different tobacco and nicotine products. It anticipates that this perspective will influence the upcoming revision of the 2014/40 directive.

10th October 2024: Czech Republic: The Ministry of Health has decided not to ban flavoured e-cigarettes despite their popularity among young people, media reports. The drafting of the corresponding decree has been suspended. In response to widespread criticism, the government is considering proposing a revised version of the ban that would only apply to selling “candy” flavours.

30th September 2024: Czech Republic: The Czech government is considering limiting flavours that appeal to under-age consumers instead of implementing a total ban that would prohibit all e-cigarette flavours except tobacco flavour, media reports. The final decision on banning flavours or modifying the proposal is expected in the coming weeks.
23rd September 2024: Czech Republic: The Ministry of Health's proposed decree initially planning to ban flavours in e-cigarettes (except tobacco flavour) has received pushback from the parliamentary committee, leading to claims that the preparation of the decree was a misunderstanding, media reports. According to the head of the parliamentary Health Committee, in a meeting with the minister of health it was decided that they would stop the preparation of the decree at the next Health Committee meeting. Therefore, the outcome of this draft decree – which was met with strong resistance – remains to be seen.
12th September 2024: Czech Republic: The government’s plan to impose a ban on flavoured e-cigarettes has been met with resistance by citizens. The petition against the ban has already gathered tens of thousands of signatures, media reports.

2nd September 2024: Czech Republic: A petition against a proposed ban on flavoured vaping products in the Czech Republic has been created, media reports. The resigning national anti-drug coordinator Jindřich Vobořil has also stated that the proposal is against the government’s approved addiction action plan and national policy on addictions, and that e-cigarettes are a less risky alternative to traditional cigarettes.
