28th February 2025: US - Nebraska: This week the General Affairs Committee considered two proposals aimed at limiting youth access to vaping products. Legislature Bill (LB) 285 would ban the sale of flavoured e-cigarettes in Nebraska, except for tobacco and menthol flavours. LB 688 would ban advertising of all e-cigarettes in the state. According to the main sponsor of the bills, the intent of both proposals is to prioritise the public health of Nebraska’s young people by limiting their access to potentially harmful products.
13th January 2025: US - Nebraska: Legislative Bill 125 has been introduced, which would update Nebraska's tobacco and nicotine product regulations by introducing a new legal definition for “nicotine analogues” – substances that have a chemical structure similar to nicotine or produce similar neurological effects. The bill would expand existing definitions of alternative nicotine products and electronic nicotine delivery systems to include these nicotine analogues. It would further introduce a tax on alternative nicotine products, which would be 20% of the purchase price of such products.
30th July 2024: US - Nebraska: Local Bill (LB) 1 has just been introduced and a hearing in the Revenue Committee has been scheduled for today. LB1 would eliminate the hybrid tax system and impose a single tax on all electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) of 30% of the wholesale price, which would effectively mean an increase in taxation.
18th January 2024: US - Nebraska: Two bills have been introduced. Legislative Bill (LB) 1299 would increase the tax rate to 20% of "(i) the purchase price of such e-cigarette paid by the first owner or (ii) the price at which the first owner who made, manufactured, or fabricated the e-cigarette sells the item to others". LB 1296 would require the tax commissioner to create and maintain a directory that lists all e-cigarettes that are sold in the state.
