Finland: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has confirmed to ECigIntelligence that an amendment to the Tobacco Act was yesterday approved by president Sauli Niinistö. The amendment introduces uniform packaging for e-cigarettes from 1st May 2023 and extends smoke-free and vape-free environments from 1st May 2022.

The amendment aims, among other things, to introduce standard packaging for e-cigarettes and seeks to extend smoke-free environments. If approved, it envisages different dates for its entering into force.

Finland: On 16th March, the parliament approved the content of the amendment to the Tobacco Act. The second reading of the bill has ended. The amendment aims to introduce standard packaging for e-cigarettes and seeks to extend smoke-free environments, among other things. If adopted, it envisages different dates for its entering into force.

Finland: On 9th March, the parliament approved the content of the amendment to the Tobacco Act in accordance with a report by the Committee on Social Affairs and Health. The first reading of the bill has ended. The amendment aims, among other things, to introduce standard packaging for e-cigarettes and seeks to extend smoke-free environments. If adopted, it envisages different dates for its entering into force.

Finland: The amendment to the Tobacco Act was introduced in the first reading in the parliament yesterday. At this stage, the content of the bill will be decided. The initial proposal aims to introduce plain packaging for e-cigarettes and seeks to extend smoke-free environments, among other things. Previously it was planned that this amendment would come into force as of January 2022; however, now it is not yet clear when it will go into effecct if adopted.

Finland: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has set up a working group to consider ways of working towards ending the use of tobacco and nicotine in Finland. The aim is for no more than 5% of the population to be daily users of such products by 2030. Between now and January 2023 the working group will seek measures to promote quitting nicotine use, and consider raising the age limit for the sale of tobacco, nicotine e-liquids and nicotine-containing tobacco substitutes.
