20th March 2024: Canada - Yukon: The Legislative Assembly approved bill 35, which allows the government of Yukon to enter into an agreement with the government of Canada to join its coordinated vaping product taxation framework. The framework will double the existing federal tax on vaping products and Yukon will receive 50% of the revenue collected in the territory. The government of Yukon will not add its own tax to these products as part of the agreement. The new federal tax rates on vaping products are expected to apply starting 1st January 2025.
11th March 2024: Canada - Yukon: The government has introduced bill 35, which seeks to enter into a coordinated vaping taxation agreement with the government of Canada. Under this agreement, the current federal tax on vaping products sold in the Yukon would be doubled, with Yukon receiving 50% of the taxation revenue collected in the territory. If passed, the new tax rate will be implemented as early as 1st January 2025.
16th November 2023: Canada - Yukon: The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health, in a joint statement, said that the government will table a motion to join the Canadian government’s proposed coordinated vaping products taxation framework. The framework will allow provinces and territories to receive 50% of taxation revenue collected by the federal government on vaping products. In return, the Yukon will not add its own tax to these products. Under current timelines and if legislation is passed, the framework will be implemented in 2024.
