The UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has published its post-implementation review of the country’s tobacco legislation. It follows a public consultation on the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (TRPR) and a review of domestic and international research and statistics on the impact of the legislation since it was introduced in 2016.
The DHSC concluded that the TRPR “met their original objectives”, which “could not be better achieved through alternative regulatory measures” and that the existing regulations should therefore remain in force. However, the government will consider changes as part of its plans to meet its aim of a “smoke-free” country by 2030.
