More than a third of US enthusiast vapers buy their devices exclusively over the counter in vape stores – even though it’s cheaper to buy the same products online.
That was among the discoveries made by ECigIntelligence in a survey of more than 4000 e-cigarette users in America.
Women and younger men particularly are drawn to vape stores, while older men are much more likely to order devices online. On average, vapers pay 15% more for hardware bought in vape stores than online.
We found that the leading brand across all categories of hardware was Smok, which along with Sigelei and Wismec was among the most trusted brands for safety.
Our report looks primarily at the hardware choices of consumers across three categories – box mods, starter kits and tanks. It identifies demographics for different retail channels as well brands and also gauges customer satisfaction.
Of those surveyed who prefer to buy over-the-counter rather than online, the important factors cited were the ability to check out products before buying, and the ability to get advice on products. Delivery time is an issue that also puts many off from ordering online.
Certain brands appeal more to women than men, while the majority of young adults are also drawn to certain brands.
