DC vapour tax rise set to be followed by others across the US

Taxes on all tobacco products – including e-cigarettes – go up in the District of Columbia (DC) today.

As vapour products are classified under the District of Columbia Official Code as “other tobacco products”, the tax on them has risen from 60% to 90% of the wholesale price – a considerable increase on an already considerable tax.

Meanwhile, proposals for further vaping tax increases are in the pipeline in Chicago, Montana and New Jersey.
