Switzerland may ease proposed ban and allow advertising of tobacco alternatives

Some advertising of tobacco products will likely be allowed to continue in Swiss print media, after legislators voted against a proposed complete ban.

The Council of States has approved a suggestion by its Commission for Social Security and Health (SGK-S) to amend several aspects of the Federal Council’s proposed restrictions on advertising.

The Federal Council’s plan, implementing an initiative called “Yes to the protection of children and young people against tobacco”, which was adopted in February 2022, introduces widespread restrictions on advertising tobacco and alternative products and is expected to come into force in 2026.
