Canada’s vaping industry says it will fight the federal government’s plan to transfer the cost of Health Canada’s enforcement programme to manufacturers, saying the combination of the new levy and existing taxes will make it difficult for many businesses to survive.
“Nobody is going to survive double taxation and this levy,” said Darryl Tempest, executive director of the Canadian Vaping Association (CVA).
Instead, the government should use the revenue it gets from excise taxes to pay for its enforcement programme, said Tempest.
