E-cigarettes have recently become popular among elite youth in Malawi. Mostly sold in uptown bars, e-cigarettes are a preferred alternative to traditional cigarettes in many sub-Saharan Africa countries – following public health warnings about the effects of tobacco consumption.

For the past few years, shisha and e-cigarettes have been hot sellers in the country’s upscale bars and nightclubs. This is despite the heavy challenge vapes are facing to penetrate the market among low-cost traditional cigarettes.
