Four companies have been chosen to provide the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) with e-cigarettes and e-liquids in closed pods.
Prisoners will be offered free vaping starter kits from late September as part of the Scottish government’s initiative to make prisons smoke-free by the end of November.
After a two-month initial period, the kits will be available at a discount until April 2019. After that, prisoners will still have access to e-cigarettes, but wil have to pay the full price.
In total, the Scottish government expects to spend a budget of around £200,000 on helping inmates stop smoking.
